Computers For All : 22-10-2008
Computers For All : 22-10-2008
CSI and CC BUCH Public Charitable Trust decided to organise Computer Awarenes for ALL not only Professionals,College Students but also STUDENTs who do not go to the schools and even those who stay in slums with very little means to afford PC access.
We were fortunate to have permission from Baroda High School alkapuri,Junior Section to bring slum children to their Computer Lab and make them aware about the Computer ,Applications and Usefulness.
An example was sent by The Chairman himself as Dr Agrawal was The FIRST to reach the venue followed by Dr C S Buch,Vice Chairman.Other members of the CSI and Ms Cheeba Jhakaria,Supervisor and Ms Kalyanimem,Arts teacher were present with about 50 children brought by Ms Kuntal
The members were surprised at the knowledge about computers in some of the children and in fact some students knew MS Office,Excell,Word and Pain etc. There were many who did not know the subject and were happy to have learnt.
When asked children said they have NOT seen Internet and then They were SHOWN various places by Kalyanimem and Dr C S Buch,Chairman,Vadodara Internet Promotion Forum.Things like Great Wall of China etc which THEY wanted to see and many other places, school website,BHS Website,Gandhiji and Vivekanand etc which made them very happy.Shri Mehul Shah perofrmed the job of thanking everybody on behalf of CSI.
The enthu children and equally energetic Kalyanimem and the overall scenario was very much appreciated by ALL present and some members were so overwhelmed by the programme that they could not speak but intimated their feelings by email, the same evening. Most expressed their satisfaction and many suggested further steps in the programme. Not to forget one member who went straight to an organisation, informed about the function and practically arranged for a meeting for such a noble cause!
The children were given Snacks and Biscuits ordered by CC Buch Trust and brought by Ms Kuntal.
All the members presented the children with the NoteBooks distributed by CC Buch Trust as a part of their usual 1000 notebook distribution programme.
Overall a memorable programme to be replicated in near future at another school with different group of slum children.

STREET CHILDREN PROJECT
FROM PLATFORM to PARLOUR : WHAT an IDEA !
We at CC Buch Public Charitable Trust used to carry out medical check-ups of children residing by road side or Railway station who have no one to look after ,had no house nor any care taker .I was generally accompanied by my intern or resident Doctor to the Railway Platform.
During these physical checkups we became friendly and even children started opening up and asked for any help if they needed from us through their street educators who were the primary reason for my going to the railway station in the first place. The educators had been doing work under the VikasJyot Trust and were very caring taking care not only of the non-formal education but also accompanying them in case there were any problems, mishaps or even meeting the police or anything else that troubled the platform child – all that would be difficult even for a REAL mother.
All people have good intentions and want to contribute to the social cause but not everyone is able to implement. One does not know WHERE to START.But DO NOT worry start from where YOU ARE and a cascade reaction will occur and before you even perceive you will be flooded with the opportunities to offer help to the needy!
Children once asked for Drawing Books and Crayons. I normally used to see them for Medical check-up but this was a little unusual request for a person with a MEDICAL mindset. I pondered and thought everything is fine for them to ask so let us go ahead and give them the scrap books and crayons. Some of them turned out to be good in painting and the educator said that they are very much interested in painting.
This led to the NEXT STEP and we had one Beautician visit the children to explain what is it all about Beauty Parlours etc .Here was a girl who did so well in painting that she was taught Mahendi and NOW earns Rs 1800 a month!
From just Scraps and Crayons to Rs 1800 a month for a girl who is good in drawing with no house, one to look after ,teach or train with no schooling IS a BIG achievement. The JOY we got gave satisfaction which can not be compared to anything else, not even an award of lakhs of rupees to any one of us.
